For starters, I’m not going to tell you a story of how I’m a bigger team than I really am.

The story I will tell is that I’ve been fortunate enough to work some awesome jobs and learn a lot from some incredibly talented, crass, creative, and downright amazing people in my 12-ish year career.

The other side of my story is that I like to talk with anyone and everyone. I like hearing peoples’ stories and sharing mine—a skill I picked up from my dad.

And that simple theory is exactly what advertising relies on more than ever: listening. I create connections that surface those great human truths, then I tell genuinely relatable stories that happen to sell stuff too.

Long story short is that I like to work with people I can be friends with. Not “let’s get the families together and head to the beach” friends, but the kind of partners that can get along, laugh, and have honest conversations together—and maybe even go to the beach some day.

Because that’s what leads to great work—and you getting what you need. In my experience, great ROI comes after great connections are made.
